Dolomites hiking trails: to the Latemar Labyrinth Agatha Christie
The Latemar Labyrinth Agatha Christie is a trail that winds above Lake Carezza. It leads to the Latemar and into the labyrinth consisting of tumbled rocks.
Starting from the woods of Latemar, you reach a maximum altitude of over 1900 meters.
Agatha Christie went on vacation at the charming Carezza lake. She drew inspiration from the imposing landscape at the foot of the Latemar. In her novel “Poirot and the Big Four” (published in the distant 1927), the famous investigator faces the four antagonists. Their enigmatic headquarters is the mysterious “Felsenlabyrinth.” The English writer sets the thrilling conclusion of the novel right inside this rocky labyrinth. It is located in the depths of the Latemar. This offers the destination a fascinating fact.
Easy hike in the Dolomites: This hike in the Dolomites of Val d’Ega begins at Hotel ADLER Carezza. Follow the trail 10A, an easy path, towards lake Carezza. Walk through the beautiful Latemar spruce forest. After about 20 minutes, you reach lake Carezza. Hence, treat yourself to a short break on Lake Carezza. Admire the unique colors of the reflections. These colors resemble the rainbow, ranging from emerald green to golden yellow to red and turquoise. Furthermore, the colors make this lake unique and one of the most visited sights of the Dolomites.

From lake Carezza, continue on path 11 to the Radura di mezzo|Mitterleger.
In one hour, you will reach the glade at the foot of the Latemar. It offers a breathtaking view of the Dolomites of Latemar. Continue the easy hike along trail 20 towards the labyrinth, following a well-marked path.
Admire the Latemar dolls, formations, and sharp-edged cliffs. They were born 240 million years ago as coral reefs. These formations have been shaped through erosion since. They have inspired the legend of the Latemar dolls: Upon delivering the knife to the wealthy Venetian, he cursed the girls, and led to their petrification, as they were not satisfied with the payment. After pronouncing the curse, the Venetian lost the knife again and still seeks after it today. In doing so, stones constantly slip away, plummeting down the mountain. Even today, the spires are spectacular. They are especially awe-inspiring when the peaks are shrouded in clouds. The peaks seem dressed in silk and gems.
Now carry on on the trail of the Latemar Labyrinth

In the meantime, you have descended many steps through the enormous landslide of the maze. Upon reaching the junction with trail 21, turn right onto it and follow the path until it intersects with trail 13 to Pra di Tori (Costalunga). Proceed along this path and arrive at a stunning meadow, which offers a unique view of the Dolomites of Catinaccio and Latemar. Take your time to savor the beautiful scenery. There is a refreshment point at the mountain hut.
As an alternate route, follow the path 21 or 17 to passo Costalunga and take the bus back to the Hotel ADLER Carezza.
Our recommended route carries on from Pra di Tori on path 13 towards the Grand Hotel Carezza.
At the intersection near the road, continue following the signs for path 6, taking the paved road “via Bellavista”. Follow the signs for Lake Carezza and, before the suspension bridge, descend to the right following the trail. Comfortably reach Hotel ADLER Carezza.
Gastronomy by the lake, on the meadows of Latemar or at Costalunga Pass, or a packed lunch.
